Cough by Pharyngitis

Pharyngitis is the viral infection of pharynx, the upper part of the throat (The lower part is the larynx). Since the sore throat is the primary symptom of pharyngitis, it is also called sore throat. The most common virus that causes the pharyngitis are cold and flu virus. Therefore, the pharyngitis or sore throat is the part of cold or flu.

Difference between sore throat and strep throat: They share the similar symptoms, scratchiness or irritation of the throat. However, the strep throat is less common and is caused by the bacterial infection. The symptoms of strep throat are more limited in the throat with more prominent swollen tonsils, painful throat, and swallowing difficulty. Strep throat need to be  treated with antibiotics.
