Cyanosis by Nitritrates/Nitrite Rich Foods
Consuming excessive amount of nitritrates/nitrite rich foods can cause cyanosis similar to that of methemoglobinemia. Vegetables and fruit contain nitrates as the part of natural diet. They are also found in the processed foods as a food preservative. When drinking water or eating vegetables/fruits from nitrite rich soil or contaminated with nitrogen-based fertilizers, or consuming too much nitrate-containing processed food, people can be exposed to high nitrate/nitrite levels.
