Hematemesis (Vomiting blood) by Alcoholism
Excessive alcohol drinking can cause the acute inflammation of upper GI system resulting vomiting and possible hematemesis. Alcoholism causes chronic GI and liver disorders such as peptic ulcers and cirrhosis, which can lead to hematemesis or vomiting blood as well. Severe alcoholism may cause Mallory-Weiss syndrome in which there are vomiting blood after violent vomiting due to tears in the inner wall of stomach and esophagus.
