Otosclerosis is due to the bones in the middle ear becomes stuck in place and is unable to pass sound vibration to the inner ear. This is, therefore, a one of conductive hearing loss. The cause is not clear, but Otosclerosis tends to run in families.

The hearing loss in otosclerosis occurs gradually and manifests in the young- or mid-adulthood, often in women. Besides hearing loss, other symptoms include dizziness, vertigo or tinnitus.
