Scarlet fever is caused by bacterial infection and seen common in children. It is often accompanied by a sore throat and a high fever since they are caused by the same bacteria strain.
Therefore, in addition to skin rash, other symptoms typically include sore throat and fever. The rash usually starts on the face or chest, and may spread to the rest of the body in the next couple of days. The rash appears like sunburn with tiny dots/bumps, hence, feel like sandpaper. The tongue may have bright red dots that gives overall ‘strawberry’ appearance.
