Risk factors for lung cancer

The leading risk factor for lung cancer is cigarette smoking, which is counted to about 80-90% of lung cancer. Therefore, not smoking or quite-smoking will significantly reduce the risk.

Comparing to people who do not smoke:

  • Smokers are 13-30 time more likely to get lung cancer to die from lung cancer.
  • Secondhand smokers and people who inhale hazardous chemicals are 1.5-4 time more likely to get lung cancer.
