This is a bacterial skin infection, and seen often in the lower leg such as shank. It is caused by bacteria infecting the skin by way of a cut, crack, or insect bit in the skin.
Symptoms typically include the redness, swollen, tenderness or pain in the affected skin. The affected area tends to expand.
