Laryngitis is an inflammation of larynx, the lower part of the throat, commonly caused by viral infection. It causes hoarse voice or temporary complete loss of voice since the larynx is the part of voice box that supports vocal fold or vocal cord.
Symptoms include hoarseness, burning sensation in the throat, sore throat, dry throat, dry cough sensitive in swallowing and fever. Cough is dry coughing, but ‘barky’ coughing in young children.
The symptoms can be treated with home remedy and improved in one or two weeks. If they last more than two weeks, or there is high-grade fever, loss voice, or ‘barky’ coughing, please go to see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
