Parotid Swelling by Acute Parotitis

Parotitis is an inflammation of the parotid glands caused by the bacterial or viral infection. Parotitis caused by viral infection is usually known as the mumps.

Acute bacterial parotitis’ symptoms is similar with mumps, including swollen parotid gland that may be accompanied with fever or loss of appetite. Swollen parotid gland(s) is tender and painful swelling, and become worse while chewing or swallowing. Unlike the mumps, the swollen parotid is usually on one side, and has foul mouth tastes associate with purulent discharges from salivary.
