Parotid Swelling by Mumps

Mumps is a viral illness that affects the parotid glands, located at the side of chins and below the ears. The glands produce saliva. Mumps occurs more often in children and usually is epidemic.

Symptoms include swollen parotid gland that may be accompanied with fever or loss of appetite. Swollen parotid gland(s) is tender and painful swelling, and become worse while chewing or swallowing.

Treatments: it heals in two or three weeks. However, if there is very painful parotid glands and fever, please contact your doctor for the diagnosis and treatment.
