Iron deficiency

This is a common type of anemia due to the lack of normal red blood cells caused by iron deficiency. Iron is essential for the body to produce red blood cells that carry oxygen.

Symptoms include pale skin/cold hands/cold feet due to the lack of red blood cells, and malaise/weakness/shortness breath/dizziness due to the lack of oxygen. Severe anemia or chronic iron deficiency affects growth and other systems such as nerve system, causing symptoms such as numbness fingers, mouth ulcers/inflammation, brittle nails, as it progresses. In some cases, there are neurological disorders such as restless leg syndrome.
