Hearing Loss by Infections (infective diseases)

Infective illnesses such as Mumps, Meningitis, Measles, scarlet fever or middle ear infection may result in the loss of hearing by damaging inner ear or middle ear. The infection causes either sensor sensorineural hearing loss or conductive hearing loss dependent on the place of damage in the ear.

Along with hearing problem, symptoms include fever, ear pain or other systemic illness symptoms. Hearing loss occurs after the infection.

Treatments: Treat the infective disease, and discuss the hearing problem with your doctor when you notice a sudden hearing loss.
