Oral candidiasis (oral thrush)

This is fungus infection in which the fungus accumulates inside the mouth, usually on the tongue and inner cheeks. Symptoms typically include ‘cheese-like’ creamy white patches with cracking and reddish lesions, as well as pain and loss of taste.

Oral candidiasis or thrush is one of common oral infection and occurs in any group and age. It occurs more often in infants and elderly people, and people with chronic medical condition or undergoing a treatment that depress the immune system of the body. For example, people with diabetes and cancer (undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment) are vulnerable to oral fungal infection.
