Skin Rash by Sixth Disease (sudden rash)

Sixth Disease (sudden rash)

Sixth disease, also called sudden rash, is a viral infection often seen in infant or young child.  It is one of six common rash-causing diseases. Others are measles, scarlet fever, rubella, fifth disease and Dukes’ disease.

Symptoms typically include sudden high fever and sudden burst of rash after the fever. The high fever appears first often without cold- or flu-like symptoms. When the fever subsides, skin rash then appears. The rash starts on the trunk, chest and neck, and may or may not spread to the rest of the body.

Treatments: The rash lasts usually a couple of days. Please go to see your doctor if high fever persists and if you or your child has an underlying condition.
